Clare Bottomley brings over ten years of education experience to her role as an online tutor for both the Photography MA and BA Top Up.
Her inclusive style has developed from teaching across a range of formal educational institution and from running creative workshops for a wide range of people at many levels.
Her practice itself applies her pedagogical knowledge and is built upon collaboration and research encompassing photography, video, animation and participatory elements.
It investigates the individual’s autonomy in the act of looking, as a challenge to the established authority of visuality, and is set against the current essentialist forms of representation that prevail in visual culture, advocating for a more subjective and anti-essentialist viewpoint.
Participating in the School of Visual Arts New York Artist residency programme in 2009
Completing MA in Photography at Royal College of Art in 2013
Being awarded the Deutsche Bank Award for Fine Art in 2014
Having work shown at the Science Museum, South Bank and Barbican made in collaboration with members of Headway East London, made whilst running a film making collective at the charity in 2018-2019.
